History lessons with young pupils

History lessons for young pupils, from about the age of five, are useful. From that age on, the teacher can help pupils develop a simple understanding of historical  time. At a later age they deepen this understanding. For example, they can link dates to periods in history. Timelines support pupils in getting an overview, making chronology visible and making connections.
